Early reports from Chicago indicate an unusually heavy poll, despite report.! of intinulation. violence, kidnappings and irregularities, with indications that the forces opposing Small and Thompson are leading. Widespread violence occurred in the industrial and river wards. Candidates were kidnapped and beaten and voters were thrown bodily out of the polling places when they refused to vote according to instructions from hoodlums. Most of the victims were members of the Deoeen faction. One mail was shot by an automobile gang composed of a man and two women. He is expected to recover.
