SPECIAL MEETING
Iho Board met at 7.45 p.m. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), E. A. V< ells, AL. Keenan, G. Davidson, 1. A\ . Duff, "M . Jeffries, G. Heinz, R. Aleharry. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT.
It affords me pleasure to preface the brief report with the fact tlmt the Health Department’s White Book received on April 2nd, 1926, for last year 1926-27 shows Westland Hospital maintenance expenditure at 9147 per occupied bed, the second lowest in the Dominion, "Wallace and Fiord being the lowest with 9138 7s.
Iho estimates placed before you show a reduction of a little over 9500 on last year's demand, thanks to the liberal response of Hospital Day appeal. For the coming year the Treasurer has estimated lolunturv contributions at C6OO. This 1 think can he achieved in the financial year. Item 91.70 is the estimate of requirements by Dr Paget of tho Health Department, and inns! he provided for. Items Repairs t:> Office. Cottage. Hall, 0.P.1i. roof, etc. are imperative if we wish to preserve these properties. All the other items are the same as last vear.
I therefore confidently submit the estimates for the coming year, feeling certain they will he passed by you wil.liout, reduotion.—Recoivecl.
The Chairman moved the adoption of the report.
Mr Duff asked if he were not going to reduce the voluntary subscriptions, as discussed in Committee. The Chairman agreed and this item was reduced from 9600 to 9350. It was also resolved as the result of discussion in committee that the item 9170, etc. he deleted, as the Board has no official knowledge of Dr Paget and His visit.
Tho Chairman’s report with the two deletions made was then adopted, tho Hindunt of reduction being only a few pounds instead of .9500 as stated, was then adopted. THE ESTIMATES. The amended estimates now show estimated expenditure 910,0-10 l-ls and receipts ,95550 14s, leaving a balance of 95091), the levy being .92213 0s l()il and subsidy 9287 G 19s 2c! on maintenance account and capital estimates of 9020, requiring levy of 988 18s 3d and subsidy contributing bodies amount to 92301 19s Id. The amounts claimed from the local bodies are :—-
Total 92301 19 1 Total last year 92638 8 2 The Estimates for the year as drawn up and amended were then agreed to on the motion of M.r Jeffries, seconded bv Mr Duff.
.Mr Duff congratulated the Board on the very successful results of the special hospital appeal, eulogising all who hail taken part in the raising of the substantial sum, also appreciating the work of the Secretary and stall in connection with the manner in which 11 ns funds ot the Board had been attended to through a very diffic ult year. Mem hers generally supported the remarks and the Chairman also endorsed them very appreciatively. The Board rose at S.lO p.m.
