By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright. WELLINGTON, April 4. Prisoners were sentenced to-day as follow :—- Albert Baird, bigamy, two years’ liard labour. Thomas Joseph Fenton, theft at Palmerston, three years’ reformative treatment. Neil Roderick Farquhar, theft at Wairoa, two years at Borstal. Robert Sproule Meuzies, auctioneer, who pleaded guilty to theft of £990, was sentenced to four years’ hard labour. The Judge said it was his duty to impose a stiff sentence.

Henry Mantell. theft of £254 from his employers, three years’ hard labour.

William Henry Samson, theft of £B7 as employee, five years’ probation, and to make restitution. Percy Edward Wliittall, two charges of indecently assaulting- children, reformative detention for three years. Three youths, Richard Carter, George Johnston, Duncan James Johnston, breaking and entering, throe years’ probation. On a charge of stealing a linen teaset, valued at £1 7s fid, Agnes Scott, married, was fined £lO. The Chief Detective said, that accused had a good home, and no need to steal. Edward Valentine Slnainka, labourer, 34, Henry George England, painter, 2fi, pleaded guilty at the Police Court to three charges of breaking, entering and theft. Detective Kane said that both had been out of work. Shramka had six young .children and England four. Both pleaded guilty and were committed for sentence. In dealing with the appeals, O’Connell v. Claason and Burke v. Chiasmi, from the decisions ol Air Page. S.M., the Appeal Court upheld the Magistrate's conviction against O’Connell (barman), hut considered the conviction against Burke, hotel proprietor, should not stand. No costs were allowed to either party.
