THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
Tobacco Ghowino. “I motored over to Napier :md bad a look at the tobacco plantations tli, are. 1 was impressed with what I saw and feel sure that the crops will do well. The leaf is not up to American standard high grade, hut it is very good. I am going to visit Nelson shortly, as 1 have been informed by one of the Ministers of the Crown that that is the best district in the Dominion for the cultivation of the plant. Tf you can grow tobacco successfully in New Zealnd it will he a big thing fur the Dominion. Of course, you will have to manufacture and thus avoid tariffs and freight. This should cheapen the weed considerably to New Zealand smokers.’’ i ■ Mr Pottinger.
