(Australian Press Association.)
(Receivod this day at 11.0 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 4
The Unemployment Conlerenee collapsed owing to the withdrawal, at the Labour Council's direction. ot non-rural delegates. Before withdrawing they read a manifesto issued on behalf of the Council, declaring n<> good purpose could be served b> attending the Conference, which it was stated had only concerned itsell. in endeavouring so tar as employers were concerned to discover ways and means of increasing production without added cost. The manifesto contended, in view of the present state of over production upon a world scale, that any lowering in the cost of production by increase in output per unit, would result in the intunsilicat ion of the problem. It added a concept put. forward at the Conference, that workers were linking back development in industry, by demanding higher wages than the industry could bear, was erroneous anil misleading and that the continuance of the Conference would not be of inly benefit to either party. Representatives of employers pointed out the union delegates had not put forward any tangible solution of the unemployment problem, but bad expressed a doctrine, amounting to a Communistic retort from the union delegates that while they did not favour Communism, a change in social order to provide for co-operative system would be welcome.
