Two weeks’ political violence is foreseen m Chicago as a result ol the bombing and partial destruction of the homes of United States Senator Deneoii and Circuit Judge Swanson. The city is prepared for outbreaks until the Primary Elections are held on the 10th April. No arrests have been made, hut armed guards are posted in and about the homes of till officials. Reports Imm Washington indicate that officials there are concerned about the position, lint the bedoral authorities arc said to have no power to interfere in Slate primary elections. A police investigation is under way, and large rewards are ofi'ered lor the arrest of the bombers. Senator Deneen’s home was bombed following on bis attendance at the funeral of 11 Dond Joe ” Esposito, a murdered gangster.
NICARAGUAN CANAL. WASHINGTON, March 28,
Senator MtTvollar has introduced a bill in Congress for the immediate construction of a Nicaraguan canal to parallel the Panama Canal, and to he financed by the issue of two hundred million dollars worth of thirty-year three per cent Government bonds. He said that a Nicaraguan canal would he a paying investment, and would restore American prestige in Nacaragua by turning the bandits into labourers'. He asked for a ten million dollars appropriation for a survey.
