REPORTS. From Treasurer reporting receipts £335 Us lid; payments .£1.32 2s 8d; balance to credit Cool 13s 8d ; dtain-' age loan account credit CIO 13s.—Received. Accounts amounting to £132 2s 8d were passed for payment. RES Ell VES COMAIITTEE. Your Committee has the honour to report that at a meeting held on the 21st ins!., the following recommendations were agreed for consideration at the Council meeting:— 1. Cass Square.—That the Overseer prepare specifications and tenders be invited for clearing all growth round tlie lour sides of the grounds, including the grubbing out of all noxious growth, and the scything of all long grass on both sides of the fences, to footpath width on the outside.- The Beautifying Society offers £0 towards the cost of the work. 2. Maeandrcw Square.—That the Overseer employ a man for a week assisting to place the grounds and flower beds in order, the Beautifying Society contributing one-half the cost. 3; Cemetery.—Arrangements have been made to deepen the partition drain between the Mental Hospital grounds and the Cemetery. Tt is proposed now that the Sexton with the assistance of a man for a few days during the fine weather, clear the east boundary drain in the grounds to secure the advantage from the deepened drain, whereby extra ground for interments will be provided. The Overseer has been instructed to finish off the fencing of Cemetery hill as soon as the timber is delivered. it is recommended that the main roads at the Cemetery be tar-sealed as circumstances permit. In this connection the Beautifying Society offers to contribute £lO towards the cost of material. 4. Section drainage.—With respect to the sections in Sale Street which have recently passed into possession of the Council, it is recommended that the Overseer report as to the cost of drainage to improve the value of the land for residential purposes. —Received and adopted. RUBRIC WORKS COMMITTEE. The Public Works Committee met at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the 21st instant and considered the following works:— 1. Street crossing in Revoll Street next to M,r S. Preston’s. It is reeomemndod that a channeling he put in and the footpath raised to avoid the present dip. The estimated cost is £O. 2. In regard to the open drain in Sale Street between Weld and Stafford Street, it is recommended that this drain lie filled in with the spoil available when grading this street and that connection he made to the main drain on the west side of tlie street. This will entail 5 chains of *1 inch pipes, cost £IG 10s, and £lO for labour, total cost £26 10s. 3. The estimated cost for completing the Healey Street drain is £B7 15s. The distance.to he completed is 7 chains and tlie material required is 151 18-incli concrete pipes at 7s (id each : £57 15s, plus labour £3O. We have in stock at present 92 18-inch pipes which would leave us with a shortage of 62 pipes to complete the work. 4. The estimated cost of the fireplug- and water-mains in Stafford Street between Rolletson Street and Jollie Street, is:— 12 chains of 4-inch piping £132 0 0 Labour 0 0 0 Total estimated cost £132 0 0 We recommend that this he referred to tlie Finance Committee for consideration. 5. It is recommended that the Council procure another 1,000 gallons of Res-A Tex at a cost of £53 Ss. 6. Tt is recommended that the Sewell Street drain, between the ClockTower and the wharf he completed as early as possible, this work being considered one of the most important and urgent works as far as drainage is concerned. A full report of the cost wil* lie submitted to a later meeting. —Received and adopted. The tender of the “ Guardian ” for ■some printing was accepted and a number of small requirements for the office were authorised. Air Holmes, of Wellington, who is making an inspection of the water supply pipes lines met the Council and discussed matters. He stated Tie had been over the pipe line that day and would make further inspection on the following days. After several matters had been discussed the Afavor stated he would rail the Council together welln All- Holmes had prepared his report. The Council rose at 8.40 p.m.
