(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. NITRATES FRO AI THE AIR. DUNEDIN, March 16. Sir Douglas Mawson and Messrs Leigh Hunt and Viekerman arrived in Dunedin to-night from the north. They, are to proceed to Lake Alanapouri, where Sir Douglas will inspect property and New Zealand hydro-elec-trio concessions for the purpose of drawing up a report for tiie directors as to the possibilities of extacting nitrates from the air with the waer power available in the locality. BOWSERS' STATION FIRE. DUNEDIN, Alarefi 18. Caused through the overflowing of one of the bowser pumps, a fire broke not at the Enterprise Service Station, at the corner of Bridgeman Street and King Edward Road yesterday. The City and South Dunedin Fire Brigades turned out at 11.58, but lielore llie outbreak could he extinguished. two of the bowsers were badly damaged. A bnv named Harold Shaw, who was in attendance at the station, was burnt on an arm, and bad to be taken to the hospital for treatment. Particulars as to the amount of the damage and insurance were not available. The station is owned by Air .T. Todd. HOTEL DESTROYED. 1 NAPIER, March 17. The total destruction by lire of two very old woudbn buildings at Puketapti. ahaut nine miles from Napier, occasioned in the early hours of this morning. The buildings were the Pukeialiu Hotel and store, and the Post Office. The fire had its origin, in the kitchen of tlie hotel, and rapidly spread from one building to the other. Owing to the absence of water, the spectators could do nothing to extinguish the blaze. As llie district had had an annual sports on the previous day. the hotel had more than the usual number of boarders, and these were able to escape with practically nothing but tlieir night attire. The hotel was owned by Air J. A igor Brown. It was insured for £IOOO, and the stock and furniture for £650. The insurance on the shop are at present unavailable. WOMAN DRINKS POISONLEVIN, March 17. A married woman, named Jessie Henry, aged forty-five, was found in the waiting lobby at Shannon station, last evening, suffering from the effects of drinking poison. She was removed to the Palmerston Hospital, and to-day was reported to he seriously
