Tin- 1 1 :t 1 t'-yfni'lv meeting of tlio NYesll:m<l Presbytery was held on Tuesday. March l.'ith, in St- .lolm’s ( Imreli. Creymouth. The Rev. J. W. Hayward ; of Hokitika, was elected moderator. There were present:—lters. A. .Miller leleik). T. X. (tittle and .). \V. Hayward, .Messrs Hilihs (Totara Flat), Wehh (I’eel ton). Corson (Denuiston), N ickers rKumara) and Heyward .Ross). On the ensting e vote of the Moderator the request of the Totara Flat congregation to linild a small church to replace the one recently lost by lire, was {'ranted. The new church is to he id x 21 and is to cost C2IO, about £SO of which will require to he raised in tin l district. Plans for a new Sunday School at Oreymouth were approved and a comj mission, consisting of Revs. Hayward and Cuttle, appointed to act for the Presbytery. The new school which is to he erected in the church section is to cost about £2,500. While commending the congregation for their enterprise, the hope was expressed that a new manse would he erected as soon as possible. Reports of the (tenoral Assembly were received and it was intimated that the Rev. A. Whiteland. the newly-ordained travelling secretary for the Men’s Bible Class movement would visit the Presbytery in .June. Changes in the Home Mission stall' were reported to the oiled that Mr Corson had been appointed to Raetihi and Mr Poole to Nightcaps. Reports of the work of the mission stations were read hy the home missionaries present and a resolution was carried commendin'; the men for their devoted services. It was decided to invite the Rev. .7. Bissett, Assembly Evangelist. to conduct a mission in the Presbytery in 7929. Presbyterian visitations were arranged for Recfton and Oreymouth during the year and it was agreed to hold the next meeting of Presbytery at Hokitika on 71th September. Tea was provided by Mrs Cuttle, assisted by Indies of the congregation, and the thanks of the members of Preshylerv were expressed very Heartily by Hie Rev. A. Millar and Mr Vickers. An interesting session was held in the evening taking the form of a discussion of ■■ Preaching as a Function of the Ministry." The Rev. .T. W. Hayward gave helpful criticism of written discourses by the home missionaries upon subjects prescribed by the Presbytery and a-Are-wards gave an address on the “Preparation of a Sermon.” Alter the discussion the Moderator was warmly thanked for his address. A Home Mission demonstration was held on Wednesday night in St. John’s Church, when interesting addresses upon the work in their various districts were given by Mr Corson, of Oenniston. Mr Heyward, Ross, and Mr Nickers. Totara Flat. The meeting was presided over by the Rev. A. Miller, of NN estport.
