lucky esc are of passengers. li.v Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright. TE KUITI, March 13. A mixed train this morning that left Tauniarunui at 7.45 for Frankton was wrecked a mile south of Alangapeiii. The train was travelling at about twenty-live miles an hour when a truck, the fourth from the engine, left the line and was followed by three other trucks and three passenger ears. The four trucks were precipitated over a bank of over 150 feet, and smashed to matchwood, Hie contents, produce and fruit being scattered in all directions. Luckily the coupling between the carriages ami truck broke and the first carriage came to a standstill against the lace of the cutting and the other two carriages on the sleepers and uprights. There were no casualties. though one passenger sustained cuts on being thrown through a window. Passengers in the first carriage had to climb through the window. The accident is supposed t<> have been caused through a broken axle on a truck. The permanent way was torn up for six chains. Relief gangs from all available points have been sent to the scene.
