.MELBOURNE RACES. AIELBOURNE, March 3. 'There was dull, threatening weather for the races, but a large attendance, including a few New Zealanders. I li? going was good. Ihe State Governor was present. Fiscus was always well placed and won the hurdles race nicely. He cost his owner, Air Brewer, 500 guineas.. Trivalve led all the way in the St. Leger, and was not extended. He has won over £25,000 in stakes. He ran the last mile and a-hall in 2.34. Amounts was fourth early ill the l',ssendon Stakes, but took charge in the straight and won brilliantly. He was ridden by the ex-New Zealander, H. Cairns. Gothic finished with a remarkable run in the Newmarket Handicap, and won narrowly. This is his second successive victory in the race, and he received a great ovation. He cost 1.650 guineas in England and was trained by the former New Zealander. Lou Rob ertson. His rider. Pike, stated that Gothic missed the jump out. and was interfered with twice. Alollison led always in the Sires Produce Stakes. Ibis is his lourth. Win in as many stalls. He cost ,0 guineas as a foal. llis owner. Mr- • Pearce, won the race in 1904 with; Arendal. Alollison’s dam. Molly’s Robe, won the Newmarket. The imported Afedmenhain was eighth early in the Brunswick Stakes., hut finished fast and won in the last stride. He scored at Caulfield last week. The stewards inquired into the cause of interference with Gothic, Avant Courier and Biskra in the Newmarket, and decided that the trouble was. caused by Numeia steering an erratic, course. Gothic and Biskra collided a short distance from the post. Reed, the rider of Sans Culotte, • stated that the mare tired badly. t Jones, rider of Chrystal, stated lie had a good run, and thought early in 1 the race he would win. | Results:— Pine Hurdles.—Fiscus 1, Blignev 2.
