PRICES EIRAI. NAPIER, Fob. 28. I lie fourth wool sale of the season opened in Napier last night, when about 10,700 bales out of a total catalogue ot 26,054 bales were sold. There was a bench of over sixty buyers, and competition was steady all through. Germany and France were well in the market, taking large quantities of bet-ter-class wools. Competition from Bradford was also keen. Woo] suitable lor America sold at high prices. Contineutial purchasers took the bulk of pieces and bellies. Then' was very good competition from France and New Zealand for lambs’ wool. Prices on (lr whole were well up to the level ul previous sales, especially for hotter quality wools, of which large quantifies were offered. Some fleeces showed seed and some lambs’ wool was infected with smut. There was an absence of the usual generous quota of Poverty Bay and East Coast wools, only 2588 bales being catalogued. Tbe decline "as held to he due to the policy of nordiern growers this year in shipping li e fleece direct to the Old Country. The demand throughout was consistent, passings being estimated at net more than 5 per cent. The wool sale was continued this morning. A full bench of buyers was again present. The sale progressed much on the same lines as last night, the French buyers being particularly active. Generally, it is considered Jr sale maintained the last Napier sale rates, and showed an advance on ti e AVangauui rates.
