~OOINCTON STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, Fob. 29. The following is the range of prices realised at to-day’s stock sale at the .Metropolitan market: Fat cattle—A very largo yarding I (about 509 head), one of the largest I lor some months. Prices were anyI where from 15s to 20s a head easier, but this was more apparent in the I heavier class. Medium prime weights did not. show the same drop. However, considering the very large yarding, the sale must bo considered a good one. Prime steers realised £l4 I 10s to £ls 15s. extra- to £l7 2s 6d, I medium £ll to £l4, rough and uiifmI islied £8 10s to £lO 10s, others to £6 j 15s, prime- heifers £9 10s to £ll 10s. extra, to £l2 17s Gd, medium £7 to I £8 15s, others to £55, prime cows £8 to £l6 ss. extra to £ll 7s Gd. medium £0 5s to £7 15s, others to £3 15s. Fat sheep—A similar sized yarding to last week’s market, and if anything firmer. Good wethers rose, from Is to Is Gd, ewes about Is, quality very indifferent. Prime wethers made 34- to 34s Gd. extra, to 395. medium 27s to 29s (hi. others to 245. prime ewes 18s to 235, extra, to 28s 7d, medium 15s to 17s Gd. other to L3x\ Fat lambs—A larger entry, including several consignments from the AA r estCoast. Quality very irregular, but a good sale, with prices generally well above schedule. Matsons and Coy advise that- the West Coast vendors would be well advised to try Addington with any consignments of fat lambs. Prime lambs realised 29s Gd to 345, extra to 37s 10d, medium 27s to 295, lighter to 24s Gd, which at round about these prices were mostly absorbed by graziers. Store sheep—There was a very large yarding and at the time of telegraphing the sale was still proceeding. The entry included a good proportion of lambs and anything in the shape of forward sorts fit for rape sold well at from, anywhere- from 30s to 335, medium lambs 17-s to 19s, others 13s to 16s Gd. The above quotations apply to threo-quarterbrod lambs. There wore a fair number of West Coast lambs yarded, which met with a good stile. Half-hrcil ewe lambs made as high as 31s. There were a large number of ewes offered, mostly from Poverty Bay. Nelson and the Chatham Islands. After the recent rain, buyers were evidently keen to make their necessary purchases. Any young ewes sold well, but- on the other hand, old ewes or in low condition and showing signs of travel, were hard to quit, but the majority of the yarding was disposed of at satisfactory prices. Best Romney cross owes realised 30s to 37s Gd. medium 24s to 295, others to 21s. One line of local crossbred two-tooth ewes realised 34s Gd. Older ewes fit to carry a lamb- down to about 14s, gummies and inferior down to Gs. A very few wethers were yarding but they sold well. Fat pigs—The yarding of porkers was only a medium one, and prices were well above last week’s rates. Light pork made 40s to 455, heavy pigs 47s Gd to 545. Bacon also showed a distinct improvement on late rates, and the bidding was keen for all classes selling up to £4 7s Gd. The average price for pork was Gtd to 7jd- bacon 5d to G-'d. Store pigs—A very large yarding in this section, comprised chiefly of medium -sized sorts. Prices showed little if any improvement- on late rates, but practically the whole market was cleared at auction at recent ruling rates. , AVeaners 6s to 12s, small stores 14s to 18s. medium 20s to 23s Gd. large to 30s, extra large to 33s Gd.
