AUSTRO-ITALO DISPUTE
SEHIOUS VIEW OF POSITION. (Received this day at 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Fell. 27. The “Daily Telegraph” says a serious view is taken of the AustroI tali an dispute which is causing a good deal of anxiety in diplomatic circles. It scouts tlie possibility of an armed conflict at the present juncture owing to Austria’s absolute disarmament and says; “The recall of the Italian Ambassador does not signify a diplomatic rupture, but the possibility of his not returning to liis post for the time being cannot be ruled out. because” behind every smouldering’question is the potential cuse ot a 'conflict of serious magnitude. Austria- has the sympathy of the Little Eentente in any grievance against Jtaly or Hungary, and furthermore is assured of German sympathy in the case of Southern Tirol, as well as French sympathy in any quarrel with Hungnrv* It is a complex and curious "group fraught with no inconsiderable perils to the peace of Danuhian Europe and a good deal elsewhere.
