(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) OLYMPIC TEAM. WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. The Australian Olympic Federation lias definitely chosen the following team of ten will represent Australia in the Olympic games:—Sculling H. R. Pearce, Boxing and Wrestling A. E. Ford, Bantam and Feather wrestling T. F. Bolgcr. swimming A. Charlton 400 and 1500 meters free style, T. . Boast backstroke, Miss E. Davy 400 metres free style, athletics, J. Carlton ICO and 200 metres, C. Stuart 400 and 800 metres, W. Whyte 800 and 1500 metres, J. R. Svde five thousand and ten thousand metres. They also recomended the following be sent in the order named, as funds come in. Swimming, Mis B. Mealing; wrestling T. H. Morris; cycling, J. Standen and. D. Gray; athletic, E. M. Davidson ; women’s sprints, Miss E. Robinson; simming, R. Grier and E. Wl. Jones. The last two names were added contingent upon it being decided to send a swimming team. Altogether twen-ty-one were recommended by the subcommittee to come un for review and it is likely all will be sent if funds, for which the Federation is starting a drive, if all are. available. Les Dull' the well known sportsman has been chosen as manager of\ the team. LOITERING FOR BETTING. AUCKLAND, Feb. 21. "I'm quite convinced that he was loitering for purposes of betting,” stated the Magistrate (Mr Hunt)' in the case in which Francis Robert Bennett, alias Butler Bennett, pleaded not guilty to a charge of loitering outside the Takapuna racecourse on January 28 and 30, for the purpose of betting. “Half of the questions put to him in Court he refused to answer,” added .Mr Hunt, “and his evidence wasn’t given in a satisfactory manner by any means.” Bennett was fined £25 on one charge. DAYLIGHT SAVING. DISCUSSED BY DOCTORS. HAMILTON, Feb. 21. The effect of daylight saving upon the health of the community was one of the questions raised at the council of the Medical. Association. The council did not record any opinion on the subject, it being decided to obtain reports from the thirteen different divisions throughout the Dominion and re-open the subject at the quarterly, meeting of the council to be held at Wellington in June. The following prisoners were sentenced by his Honour Mr Justice MacGregor to-day:— Andrew Alexander Clark, a fireman, aged 22, for false pretences, theft, forgery, and uttering, at Hawera and Christchurch, twelve months’ imprisonment. William Roxburgh, for theft as a servant, reformative detention for a period not exceeding twelve months. Edward lladaway Johnson, aged 20, for forgery and uttering at Blenheim, j reformative detention for a period not I exceeding two years. John Charles Cannon, aged 22, for breaking, entering and theft at Wellington, reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years. George James Cullen, aged 29. for forgery and uttering, two years’ hard labour. James Maxwell, aged 55, for breaking, entering, and theft at Feather- i ston. to six months’ imprisonment. Walter Hedley Tluthnance, for theft 1 as a servant, Borstal treatment for a j period not exceeding two years. ! A SUBSTATIAL FINE, ' AUCKLAND. Feb. 21. At the Police Court to-day William J. Mead was charged with stealing pohutnkawa wood, valued at 30s, the property of the Tamaki West Road Board, and wilfully damaging a polmtukawa tree. He pleaded not guilty to both charges. Evidence was given by two employees of the Itoad Board that they had seen Mead in the act of sawing a thick branch off a pohutnkawa tree near St Heliers. A quantity of green pohutnkawa wood was found in a boat which was being rowed by Ins son. “You know very well that it is a serious offenece to cut green polnitukawa trees,” said the Magistrate in fining Mead £lO and costs on each of two charges. Mead was ordered to pay 30s for the damage done and £2'witnesses’ expenses, a total of £2B 10s.

AIAX FATALLY INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 25. While working a capstan alongside the steamer Holmdale at Lyttelton at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, Francis George Donnelly, fifty-eight years of age, residing at 102, Chester Street, Christchurch. received injuries which resulted in his death in the Christchurch Hospital at 5.15 p.m. The capstan rope became fouled and he hook caught round Mi 1 Donnelly’s egs, which were severely gashed. The njnred man was removed to the Lytelton casualty ward, where his inui'ics were treated by Dr Gilmour and ic was then sent to the Christchurch lospital where, however, he sank and lied. An inquest will be held. The late All' Donnelly was very well mown in Lytteton where he resided or many years. He was conversant -ith much of the eary history of the ort. He leaves a widow and one son.
