The Australians opened their tour to-day against the Nelson Eleven, on what was described by the vfsrtors as a beautiful wicket. Richardson won the toss and sent Nelson to bat. Considering the strong opposition against them, Nelson did very well indeed to bring the total to 161 before the last wicket fell. Grimmett was the most destructive bowler, breaking both ways and coming out with an average of 7 for 6-1. Of the other bowlers, Blackie appeared to give the batsmen most trouble. The fielding of the visitors was splendid. Australia did not start too we'l. Wood full going l.ib.w. with the score at 18.
