ATTACKED BY LION. A farmer on a lonely settlement in the Northern Transvaal hail a thrilling- linn adventure. Lions which swam the Crocodile River killed some of his prize cattle. From a fig tree the farmer watched and saw three lions swimming across. He killed one during the night. Another, which was wounded in a trap, crossed to an island. The farmer followed. Suddenly the lion charged at him, but it slipped in the mud when only five yards away. The farmer fired and killed it. breaking its spine.
