DISSATISFACTION WITH GOVERNMENT

AIR FORBES’S CAMPAIGN. AUCKLAND, Feb. 8.. ■‘l don’t remember when there was such a universal dcsiie throughout New Zealand for a change of Government as exists at the present time," said the Leader of the National Party. Mr G. W. Forbes, this morning, in explaining bis attitude in respect to whole-heartedly supporting the movement that is in progress to form a united political party. Associated with Air E. A. Ransom. M.P.. of l’ahiatua. he said that he was in Auckland to fire the first shot in the canmaign that was being conducted throughout the Dominion for the purpose of getting together a strong party that, he felt, would represent a majority of the people ol the country. There was a strong dissatisfaction about the present Government.

“Alanv people who have pinned their faith to the Government for years have come to Us saying that they have been depending on a broken reed." said Air Forbes. “Wherever one goes there are expressions that the time for a change has arrived."

While a feeling ol dissatisfaction existed it required organisation to form a strong party that would build up the support of the public tor a pingramme that would be in the interests of the Dominion. A responsible alternative that people could turn to was required, and not a policy that would be disastrous in the making of the cluinge and cause swinging over to the Socialistic Labour Party. ’ “To my mind." he added, "the great solution of the unemployment problem is vigorous prosecution of land settlement. That is what was done in 1890 by the Liberal Party, and from then up to the present time we heard little of unemployment. Me don t want to make this a party question, however, for we are willing to assist the Government in every way possible to alleviate the genuine distress that exists in Now Zealand to-dav."
