AMERICA’S NAVY. WASHINGTON, Feb. 2
Bear Admiral Hilary Jones, who was delegate to Geneva. Naval Conference, told the House Naval Committee that lie hoped in 1931 the Disarmament Conference would remove the necessity to carry out the entire eight hundred million dollars naval programme. He added that a reduction of United States Navy could only be made by agreement among nations. Jones Urged the protection of the sources of steel and rubber as an economic argument for a fleet as large as Britain’s. He said: “We have the right to equal opportunity to carry on trade with all parts of the world, with whom and where we wish, without being dictated to by any nation in Ihe world.” HUGE FIRE. FIVE CITY BLOCKS. NEW YORK, Feb. 2. Five city blocks in Fall River, Massachusetts, were swept by fire. Twentyfive buildings, including many business structures, were destroyed. The damage is estimated as high as tliirtv-five million dollars.
