One of the happiest and healthiest adjuncts to the amenities of the town must lie the Municipal Swimming Baths The experience during the past couple of months when the weather has been so seasonable, has fully warranted the* effort °f providing the
baths for public use. The fort-galher-ings on the occasion of carnivals prove that the Imths are as popular with the seniors as the juniors, and it must he taken as an appreciable attitude to see so many parents present on such occasions to witness lln* young folk disporting themselves to their hearts’ content ill the water. The exception non would be the youngster who cannot swim. The healthy and useful nature of me exercise which swimming provides must be playing its part in building up Ibe stamina of the -ising generation, so many of whom ore now proficient swimmers. What is being realised in that respect should encourage any laggards to join in the pastime and acquire knowledge of tho art of swimming which is so easy l> any and so useful of service in any i niergettcy. The local baths have been in use now for some time and daring that period there existence by use has fecit fully demonstrated. The baths have done excellent service, and provided a very excellent playground. As time goes on their utility will increase rather than diminish, and for that reason the baths and appointments should be kepi fully up to ronuirements. It is some years .siuoe they were brought into use. ami no Doubt improvements could now lie eifeeted which would add still further to their utility and the service to bo rendered tin* community. On that ac(oiuit during the next off-season il would be well to bespeak a general overhaul and by attention betimes, have tho baths ready lit good tinto for the following season. Tho vogue of tlio baths would become the greater, and in the interests of all concerned it, would be well at tin* close of the season to call a conference of all Interested to see what might be done in this mutter It is of such rontinunity interest that, there would be a ready rcsjKin.se where help was required. and with the generous help of tho people all things in season would bo possible. The suggestion is commended to all interested in securing the best value possible from such a utility public convenience as tho municipal ha t lis.
