GREY JUBILEE SUBCOMMITTEE
A meeting of Hokitika branch of the Grey Jubilee Committee was held at the 'Town Hall last evening, the Mayor presiding, there being also present Hon. 11. L. Michel, and Messrs King. Duff, Heenan. Jeffries, ileiun and Armstrong (Councillors). The following report of the Executive was read:— Your Executive Committee met on 'Tuesday, the 24th inst. Present: — .Myself, Dr Teiehelmpnn, and Mr Coles iSecretary) ; and submits the following recommendations for your consideration : 1. That the Secretary ascertain from the Grey Committee the amount ol wall space, etc., available, and that Dr Teiehelinann he deputed to select historical pictures and items from the Town llall and Museum, lor exhibition at the Jubilee.
2. That in regard to the competition for the best-dressed group, that Mr Jack Wallace, Red Lion Hotel, be asked to arrange for a group. In regard to the Organiser’s letter respecting a tableau. your Committee have no recommendation to make. :S. That in addition to the public holiday which is being asked for on Fehniary 28th. the following day (20th) he also declared a public holiday. 1. In regard to Children’s Day on Wednesday, the 20th.. recommend that the Secretary notify through the local press, the fact that there is a prize for the best original fancy dress. 5. In regard to occupants of the Old People’s Home and other pioneers attending the function, it is recommended 'that all arrangements in connection with the children’s visit to the warships he delegated to the School Committee. Recommended that the Grey Committee endeavour to arrange for a late evening train to Hokitika, during the celebrations. GEORGE PERRY. Chairman of Committee.
—Received and accepted. Hon. H. L. Michel stated lie understood a permit was being granted for the Trotting Club to hold a meeting. A letter from the Grey Committee on a number of matters was received. The meeting then adjourned.
