(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) POLICE FOR SAMOA. AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. Six Auckland constables leave for Samoa by the Tofua on Saturday. They are: Callaghan. Shields. Bagge, Hollis. Smith and Young. All are strapping six footers and will wear white duck and helmets. WELLINGTON. Jan. 27.
The Prime Minister, referring to Mr Holland’s later criticism, says that in his' statement on Moie'-iv lie referred to the effect of tlm Men upon our health administration and to the report of the Acting Chief Medical Adviser, that sanitary measures had been so neglected flint in certain villages the places were no better than cesspits and that an outbreak of disease must be expected. He expressed the opinion that many innocent lives must be lost in Samoa, as a direct result of the Mnu influence in destroying the confidence of the natives in the Health administration. I am, he says, very sorry to say that an outbreak of mild bacillary dysentrv lias occurred at Savaii, where it was anticipated. I trust it will not develop into a serious epidemic. Dealing generally with Mr Holland s remarks, he points out the answer to his charges of improper methods is contained in the Com mss ion’s report, than which there could never have been n more complete vindication. Ihe report upholds the action with regard to Faipnles. Air Coates has no knowledge of any promise to give representation on the Legislative Council being broken. The Fono of Faipnles expressly desired no such step should be taken. Finally with regard to the cninpflaint that members of Parliament had not yet received a copy of the Commission’s report and evidence, Air Coates says that despite every effort the printing office had not been able to complete the work, which is very voluminous, but he hones to have it ready in about a week. The contents of the report itself were published long ago.
