CHINESE PIRACY

(Received this day at 10.40 a.m.) SHANGHAI, January 2(5.

Foreign Powers have voluntarily abandoned a plan to jointly suppress piracy in South China, according to a report from Peking, due to the expense of providing the necessary gunboats and the possibility of Chinese misunderstanding such action. It is understood as an alternative, that the Powei-s will request the Nationalist Government to undertake effective measures for the suppression of piracy on the coasts of Fukien and Kwangtung provinces, and giiara'ifi’o safe navigation for foreign vessels plying in these waters.

Fifteen pirates who participated in the Saunamhoi piracy on the 17th resulting in the death of a British officcr and Indian guards, were executed.
