(Received this day at 9.30 a.m). OTTAWA, Jan. 23. A supplementary change of personal communication was the description by the Hon. L .M. Amery in a press interview, of the new post of British representation in Canada. Asked if there was a possibility of setting up a diplomatic service within the Empire, Air -Amery said the term diplomacy was open to ambiguities in imperialism. New points were more like liason work
and not like limited discussions between £ foreign powers. It was a question of convenience for each Dominion, who and what rank would fill the position. OTTAWA, Jan. 23. Amery saw no difficulty in holding an Imperial Conference anywhere in the Empire, lie favoured a. conference every three years, An election seemed probable in Britain this • year, and South Africa and Australia next year, it was difficult to see how a conference would be possible in 1929, probably the date would be ' 1930.

PROHIBITION AND PRESIDENCY WASHINGTON, Jan. 23. Mr Borah has begun a campaign to place candidates for Republican Presidential nomination on record against prohibition. Air Borah sent Senator Curtis a public letter ashing bis attitude and announced be intends sending a similar letter to all Republican candidates. He asked Curtis "hetliei lie favoured the prohibition plank in the Republican platform; also what would he his attitude towards the enforcement, if elected; also whether he would favour the executive programme to enable States to determine the alcoholic content of liquor sold within the borders; also whether he would favour the repeal of the Volstead Act or Eighteenth Amendment.
