(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) HOARDING HOUSE DESTROYED. GISBORNE, Dec. 28. A boardinghouse at Tepuia Hot Springs and a store adjoining, both owned by .1. R. Johnston, were destroyed hy fire this morning. Nothing was saved. The insurance was £1509. FTRES. MASTERTON. Dec. 28. A ten-roomed hoarding house in Perry Street, owned hy Timms Estate, and occupied by Mrs Siinnex. was partially destroyed hy fire. The fire started in an unoccupied bedroom at the rear of the house and spread through to tlie front before it was checked. The whole of the hack portion of the j house with contents was destroyed, while the front rooms and contents' were charred and damaged hy smoke and water. Two of the hoarders lost all their effects. There was £IOO insurance on the furniture.

A BURGLARY. HAMILTON. Dec. 28. A burglary took place at a private hoarding house at Hamilton, when the bedroom of Mr Moss Edgar, fancy goods dealer, Yictorin Street. Hamilton, was entered and a day’s shop takings. totalling £72. were stolen. AN ACCIDENT. HAMILTON, Dec. 28. As the result of a full frolli a Motor cycle, in a collision with a car near Huntly yesterday afternoon, a. youth, Lionel llopwood, of Shelly Beach Road, Auckland, sustained a fracture of tho right leg. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. “ A DANGEROUS -MAN.” AUCKLAND, Dec. 28. “ This is a dangerous mail; a professional pickpocket who carries a gun at night,” said Chief Detective Cummings, when William Stone, aged 27, appeared at the Police Court to-day.

Stone, who had two black eyes and a battered face, was charged with being idle and disorderly, in that he associated with thieves.

In asking for a remand. Chief Detective Cummings that said accused was an Australian criminal who associated with two pickpockets already arrested. He was a dangerous man. who carried a gnu at night. “ I haven’t done? no harm, your Worship,” said Stone, “ and I want to go hack to Australia.” “ You look as if you had struck harm.” remarked the Magistrate. “ Yes. they had a row over the proceeds of a theft,” said Cummings. Stone was remanded for a week.

£IOO FINE. AUCKLAND. Dec. 29. Robert Ryan, aged 38. was fined £1(X) to-day for keeping a common gaining house in (juecii Street premises. The police said Ryan had done well in an extensive bookmakitig business over the ’Xmas holidays. He had been fined the maximum on a similar charge in December 1925. Asked why lie'should not he imprisoned, Ryan said he had a wife and eight children to support.
