N Z. PLANT ASSEMBLES 3000th CHEVROLET
On the I.9th April of this year, after assembly operations at the retoiie plant of General Motors New Zealand Limited, had been in operation only some nine mouths, the building ot ttic* I COUth Chevrolet was celebrated by a picnic tor (lie 480 Xew Zealanders who find employment with this new Doinininon industry.
Now. with another nine months work accomplished, according to figures just released, a further 200!) Chevrclois have been built up hv New Zealand labour, bringing the grand total up to 4000 cars for eighteen months operation.
Responding to an unprecedented demand created hv the announcement uf the new model Chevrolet in October, production on this car has been running to the* record height ol over 400 cars a month. These figures deal with Chevrolet only, there being, in addition, seven other makes of General Motors ears which are handled at the Retime works
