Chamberlain in reply: “I see no occasion for a resumption till ciieumstances are changed.” Mr Hcadlain in reply to a question said until further details are available of United States new programme, and ways of construction were obtained, no comparison lietween British and American naval strengths for five years hence could, be made. Questioned concerning the recent stage performance representing the execution of Charles Peace, in which John Ellis, a former executioner is appearing, Sir Jovnson Hicks said that executioners were employed hv sheriffs, and was not empowered to make conditions. Anyhow these did not apply to executioners after retirement. Mr Gardner: “Is it a public policy to have executioners on the stage?” Sir Brittan : “Cannot the matter he left to public opinion and the press? ” Sir Joynson Hielts said he was sure the House regarded such exhibitions as unseemly*
