BRISBANE, Dec. 17. The first lot of Roma oil sold for commercial use, amounting to 180 gallons, was purchased by the Queensland Government analyst for his sons, to he used as fuel for farm tractors. DEATH ON STEAMER. BRISBANE. Dec. 17. When the steamer Hoserie arrived at Townsville from Mexico, it. was reported one of the crew had died from a disease reported to lie typhus fever, but. inquiries showed that probably this was not so. Two rats from the vessel were sent to the Institute of Tropical Afedicino, where they were found to contain bacilli, resembling those of plague. The chief quarantine officer states steps are being taken in the direction of safety. The vessel lias been anchored pending further investigation.
