I| is understood that seven millions of the Xew South Wales loan has been underwritten live and a quarter per cent, at ninety-nine and li-half. LOXDOX. Dee. 14. The Xl‘w South Wales loan surprised the market as it was thought the issue of treasury hills on Ist December would have filled the requirements till the Xew Year. The new issue is paripas.su with the existing ~)\ per cent loan. The first interest payment is £2 on I 7/28. The prospectus states the loan is being raised for construction ol railways and public works, three million treasury temporary advances, borrowed in London will he repaid from the proceeds. The Joan was favourably received on the Stock Exchange, which is specially pleased bv the statement that the whole of the sinking funds will be applied to the purchase ol Xew South Wales and other Australian Government- securities on the London market.

In the Commons, asked whether Britain had prepared a scheme lor naval disarmament to submit at the forthcoming Preparatory Commission Disarmament at Geneva. Air l.ockerLnmpsan replied that it must "ait till the Commission meets. He imagined there was a scheme but it is impossible at present to state what proposals would be made at Geneva. Air Bridgeman in answer to a question said lie did not think the new American naval programme gave grounds for departing from the decision to reduce the British cruiser pro-
gramme. Air Baldwin informed a questioner that the Government was considering tlie question of making pliosphatiu rock from Nauru. Harry Bay has given notice of a question in the Commons to Air Baldwin as Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge, asking as the University cannot control members away from Cambridge to leave such disgraceful conduct to the civil authorities.
THE STUDENTS’ RAG. LONDON, Dec. 14. The wild disorders of the undergraduates have caused the strongest indignation and theirs is generail.v agreed to have been the worst exhibition of larrikinism in the West End. The newspapers are unsparing in castigation and variously style the participants as “toughs,” “hooligans. ’ “cads.” Several appeared in po'ice courts and the highest fine, £.') imposed. It is reported the actual damage amounted to hundreds sterling. The theatrical managers have resolved to, take the strongest action to prevent a repetition.
