Clifford Hawley, President of First National Pictures, announced to-day a combination of British motion pictuie enteprises controlled bv Lord Ashtield and Lord Beaverbrook in England, with British subsidiaries, the First National and Stanley Company in America, fer the production, distribution and exhibition of films throughout the Untied Kingdom.
The combined assets are said to exceed a hundred and fifty million dollars. The new company plans a moving picture theatre in London’s A\ est End with a seating capacity of five thousand.
MEXICAN CIVIL AVAR. AIEXICO CITY, Dec. 12. Fifty-six Catholics. including a priest, were killed in two battles dining the week-end at Jalisco. ENDURANCE TEST ABANDONED NEW YORK. Dec. 12. A message from Oakland. Caliioini.i. states that Smith and Ulm have- moved the “Spirit of California” from Millsjjeld (Sail Francisco) to the Oakland Municipal air port, to-day. and announced that if all went well they would begin the flight to Australia within 72 hours, apparently having abandoned tlieir intention to attempt the endurance record. To-morrow morning the plane will be put to the air for a full load test. Smith says that if this is as successful as be anticipates, the plane will be prepared immediately for starting on the Australian flight.
’PLANE CRASHES. XEAV YORK. Dec. 12
An aeroplane en route to im’t Wavne from Detroit, crashed, killing Captain John Zeigler (pilot), and C. J. Parker, a millionaire manufacturer. Two other passengers were injured. Motor trouble caused the pilot to attempt a forced landing, and the plane overturned and was demolished.
LINDBERGH HOPS OFF. WASHINGTON. Dee. 13. Lindbergh hopped off on a. two thousand mile non-stop flight to Mexico City at 12.30 to-day.
U S GOVERNOR IMPEACHED. NEW YORK. Dec. 13,
\ message from Oklahoma city says troops”and injunctions failed to protected Governor Johnston from, the insurgent. Legislature which met in a secret session in the early hours ol the morning. It preferred six charges of impeachment against the Governor, also charges against Chief Justice Branson of the State Supreme Court and President Cordell oi the Agricultural Board. The Senate is making secret plans to receive the charges from the House, and suspend the officials pending trial. The Senate has alsready formally resolved itselt into a Court of Impeachment.
