SIX YOUTHS ARRESTED. DUNEDIN, Dec. 1
Six youths, with ages ranging from 16 to 21, were charged at the Polic-o Court with the conversion of motor cars. For some months cars have been taken from parking places, and accused when arrested, admitted the charges. Other charges are pending including breaking open letter boxes and stealing the contents. Two admit driving cars around to letter boxes, and breaking them open; also to driving to Company’s Bay and breaking and entering a crib and stealing goods. They were remanded till Wednesday.
PRISONERS SENTENCED. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 1. Prisoners were sentenced in the Supreme Court. Hastings Garfield Ireland and Alexander Thompson, for theft at Metliven, received reformative treatment lor three years. Ireland had tried to commit arson in order to cover up the crime. Joseph Ley ell and Albert Edward Franilscn, for theft of a motor cycle, probation for three years. MAN KILLED. OAMARU, Dec. 1. Edward Hedges, married, with no family, a fellmongor, was found dead under a car at the foot of a hank on the beach road, North Oamaru this morning. Apparently the car got out of control. No one was with him at the time.
FALSE PRETENCES. AUCKLAND, Dec. 1
Erie Reginald Jackson, aged 24. pleaded guilty at the police court to obtaining money at 'Tailmpe by falsely representing that ho was a solicitor and that his hanking account had not boon transferred to Christchurch, also with obtaining board and lodgings by repesenting he was an inspector of schools. He was remanded to December sth. for receipt of police records from Taihapc and Wanganui.
FOUND HANGED. PALMERSTON N., Doc, 1
Alfred Thornton, aged 23, employed by road contractors at the Massey Agricultural Collego was found to he missing yesterday afternoon. He was discovered this morning hanging over the hank of the Manawatu River with a strap round his neck, tied to a fence. Apparently it was a case of suicide.

Obituary.— Last evening, Richard Wills, head of the firm of J. Wills and Co., merchants. He was a prominent citizen and mining investor.

Victor Griffiths, deputy-mayor, has been elected unopposed to the vacancy caused by the death of late Mayor Wilson.
BANK MANAGER. HONORED. OTAKI, Dec. 1
H. Mitchell, who retires after 41 years as manager of the Bank of New Zealand, was entertained last night and presented with a substantial cheque.
FORGERY CHARGE. AUCKLAND. Dec. f
Richard Thomas Douglas Cook, aged 22, pleaded guilty at the Police Court to forgery of a credit note on the Bank of New South Wales, for £5449 with the intention that it he acted upon as genuine; also for forging a promissory note for £4O. Evidence, was given by an hotel broker that the accused introduced himself as a publican from Sydney, saying he wanted to buy an hotel. He paid a deposit of £5 on an Auckland hotel. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. LAUNCH BURNT. AUCKLAND, Dec. 1.
Burnt to the waters’s edge, a 20-foot fishing launch filled and sank in deep water off Titarangi Island yesterday morning. The sole occupant was Jack Sanderson, of Brighton Road, Parnell, lie escaped in a dinghy to the launch Wheta, which had picked up Sanderson’s launch on Tuesday in a crippled condition. The owner, having got the engines running again, was preparing breakfast at 4.40 on Wednesday morning preparatory to making port, when the oil stove exploded.
