DR EDO EM ASTERS' CERTJ FI CATE.A Mr Seddon, M.P., has been advised as follows by the Hon. Minister of A! ines : " As requested when the Alining Bill was under discussion, 1 have now much pleasure in forwarding particulars of the subjects in which candidates will require to pass before obtaining Dredgcmastcrs’ Certificates. The examination lor (lass A certificates will comprise the following subjects : Ci) On laying lines and the methods of running lines for working a dredge. (1), On moving a dredge up and down stream. (e) On mooring a dredge and pro-, toiling same against floods, ete. (d) On .boats and the working of same under conditions incidental to dredging operations. (e) On a knowledge ol the requirements of the Alining Act and regulations relating to dredging. | II) On siieh other matters relating to the safe working ol dredges as the Board may deem desirable, including a knowledge of machinery and the .strength of ropes. Candidates for class B < crtificates will require to undergo an examination similar to that provided for Class A candidates, but questions relating exclusively to the working of dredges on deep or sw ift-tlow mg streams will not he asked. These provisions regarding the examination will he embodied in the regulations to he issued shortly, hut are. ol course, subject to any revision found necessary. The examination for both Class A and I! certificates will he partly oral and partly written, at the discretion of the examiners, or as directed hv the Board of Examiners under the Alining Act, 102(5. The examination for Class A certificates is on similar lines to that already provided for in the present regulations under the Alining Act. A copy of the amended regulations dealing with Dredgemasters’ Certificates will he forwarded you in duo _ course.” '
