Tint railway time-table alterations, which are to be brought into force on the sth. prox. on the Westland section, include a general revision of the train running on the Westland section. At tlie Progress League meeting on Tuesday when the. matter was mentioned, it was stated the effect at this end would l>o mainly in regard to the later arrival of the evening train. The extra, fifteen minutes would disorganise hotel arrangements somewhat. and regret was expressed that the representations on that point had not received more attention by the speeding up of the Greynioutli-Tloki-t-ikn service. At the same time it was recognised that the overhaul of the time-table was primarily for the benefit. of the Duller district traffic, and as some advantage was being given in that respect, it was decided not. to raise further objection ns far as this end of the district was concerned. Tlio sum of the alterations will reduce considerably the waiting time at Stillwater for passengers ex the RceltonWestport line joining the HoldtikaChristchui'ch mail train, and of passengers of the Christcliurch-Hokitika mail train for the, Ileeftou-Westport line. The advantage to the Bailor end is by the close motor connection now possible. Cars leave Westport in time to connect with the train at Reefton at

8.50 and passengers join the Christchurch train at Stillwater. In the same way, passengers from Christchurch join the Reefton train at Stillwater, and on arrival at Reefton, motor ears proceed on to Westport the same evening. There is thus a oneday service -between Westport and Christchurch and vice versa on three days a week, and that will be a boon to northern traffic. The one day daily service between Greymoutli and Westport is facilitated also, while on three afternoons a week passengers may get through Greymoutli to Westport, departing from Greymoutli at 3.50 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This service is an advantage for passengers from Hokitika also. In all the circumstances - the new time-table should prove an all-round improvement.
