I (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. FORGERY AND THEFT. INVERCARGILL, Nov. 16. Ernest Mabin Gilmour was found guilty of two charges of forgery’ and four of stealing money totalling sixteen hundred pounds, belonging to the estate of the late Emily Clerk. Justice Sim summing up said it was quite dear that accused had drawn moneys from the Post Office under power ot an attorney, and used them for himself. The jury ought to convict him unless they believe accused’s story that Airs Clark had given him the moneys as a gift. In passing sentence Justice Sim said Gilmour used his power of attorney to carry out wholesale thefts, and it was impossible to consider probation. Ho was sentenced to three years hard labour for forgery and two years on each of the other charges eoneurrent-
MAYOR’S FUNERAL. NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 16. The funeral of the late Mayor. Afr Frank Wilson, to-day was a most impressive ceremony, attended by representatives of public bodies of all parts of Taranaki. Business premises were closed and municipal services suspended. A choral service at St. Alary’s Church was attended by all clergy of the Arehdeaconnrv. A Alasonio service was bold at the graveside. A BURGLARY. TAUALYRUNUI, Nov. 16. During the night David Isaac’s drapery store in Main Street was entered by burglars and £IOO worth of goods stolen. Entrance was gained bv breaking a window at the rear of the premises.
