IBy Telegraph—Per Press Association. THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. On the motion of Sir Francis Bell the question of the amendment of the law relating to rent restrictions was referred to the Labour Bills Committee, with instructions to take evidence thereon and report to the Council. Sir Francis Bell gave notice that ho intends to move the second reading of the Rent Restrictions Continuance Bill on Thursday.
The Newmarket Borough Council Vesting and Empowering Bill, Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, Valuation of Land Amendment Bill, Motor Spirits Taxation Bill, Local Legislation Bill and Howard Estate Amendment Bill were received from the House and read a first time
I’lie Valuation of Land Amendment Bill was also read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Lands Committee, and the Local Legislation Bill referred to the Local Bills Committee. The Alain Highways Amendment Bill was read a second time; The Afotor Spirits Taxation Bill was also passed without amendment, after a brief discussion concerning the allocation of moneys to the South Island. After delivering a critical attack on the Administration of the Native Trust Office, which was replied to by Sir F. Bell, a motion by lion Reed to refer the Native Trustees Report to Native Affairs Committee was defeated on the voices. The Council adjourned at 3.30 until to-morrow. THE HOUSE. Tn the House the Seeds Importation Bill was put through all stages and passed. The Prime Afinister moved the second reading of the Licensing Amendment Bill, stating he intended to put the P.ill through if possible. He would accept amendments, but if the amendments were carried, with which he could not agree, he would have to consider the position. The debate was continued until 1.29 when it was adjourned on the motion of Air Bellringer. The House then rose till 2.30 p.m.
