THEFT CHARGES

XELSOX, Xov. 12,

\ incent James Prequer engaged in an indent business, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court on two counts arising out of the sum of four hundred failing to account for £250 and theft of £4of) by wrongfully converting it to his own use. On the application of the police a remand was granted to 30th November. The police asked for substantial bail, stating further charges involving a considerable .sum of money were pending. Jiail was fixed at two sureties of £2OO. On counsel’s request one surety of £!i3o in addition to self of £3OO.

Mary Anne Murphy, aged 72, died in hospital on Friday night, five days after her admission, suffering from severe burns on the face and hands, the result of a fire at her home. Her husband, Patrick Murphy, and son, Leo Murphy, were also severely burned. At the inquest to-day, Sergt. M. Kirby, the father of industrial advocates of Australia, with 3(3 years in industrial work, and now in Xew Zealand, to attend a Conference of X T .Z. stage employees in connection with their dispute, considers that Xew Zealand is far fn advance of Australia in industrial matters. The conciliation system, in his opinion. could not be improved upon. He had been endeavouring to get the Commonwealth Attorney-General to adopt the X.Z. system. He thought Xew Zealand would lie very unwise to appoint a now assessor for each separate dispute.
