ARBITRATION BILL

He endorsed Mr Sterling’s evidence and supported Mr Fisher's suggestion to have a tribunal within the industry. Mr Wm. Mulholland (Dnrfiefd, Canterbury). Chairman of the Agricultural Committee of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Executive and a member of the Dominion Board of the Farmers’ Union, stressed the necessity for exempting farm labourers, including workers in the threshing industry.
Air A. Morton, President of the National Dairy Association, affirmed that the dairy industry should he exempt. If the industry were taken out of the Act. he would not fear any upheaval.
The Executive Council of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, at present holding its quarterly meeting in Wellington, has passed the following resolution:— “That this Executive strongly protests against the proposed alteration to the I.C. -and A.. Act and advises all members of the A.S.B.S. to co-operate with other organisations with a view to blocking the passing of the Bill. WELLINGTON, Nov. 0.
Before the Labour Bills Committee, Mr Bloodworth said the unions he represented considered the Bill unnecessary. The amendments were impracticable. He traversed the provision re piecework, and contended that they protected sweating. This witness was followed by Mr Sterling, manager of N.Z. Co-opera-tive Dairy Cov., of Hamilton, who said they'regarded the Court ns the greatest safeguard against- the inteifering of union secretaries. There was no indication that feeling "ou be less intense if the court were abolished. He supported Mr Fishers proposal for some tribunal to finalise matters between employers and the workers.
