A hundred and twenty Chinese women were killed outright and two hundred injured when a two-storied Chinese restaurant Collapsed, during a meeting to discuss the formation ol a female silk workers’ union.

The audience stampeded following a cry of fire and five hundred were buried in the ruins of brick and stone. There were terrifying scenes of mangled bodies. The crowd fought like maniacs to escape from the premises, hut the alarm proved false.
