TOURIST TRAFFIC. (From a Correspondent)
Air Erie James, who is at present in Dunedin, reports a very marked increase of hookings to Alakarora, Haast Pass and AA’est Coast. A number of parties of young men propose to explore some very remote mountainous regions, west of the dividing range. Air Young 'Dunedin) is organising a party to pioneer a trip from Dunedin to the West Coast via Haast Pass, thence clown the most remote, unknown portions of New Zealand, to Martin’s Rav, the birthplace of the AlcKenzies, the well-known hermits. This section of the journey was visited by Alessrs AlcKenzie, Simmers and James last winter, the first to penetrate this interesting locality since 1922. This is also one of the few remaining districts where native bircllilY is still abundant and which includes the rare ground birds which are almost extinct ill most parts of the Dominion. Mr A'oiing’s party may return via Hollyford, Howden and Greenstone to Wakatipu. Air J. Aitken (Dunedin) a wellknown mountaineer, with companions, has outlined an extensive tour which will commence from Pembroke to Aft. Aspiring, thence over the difficult Arawata Saddle to AA’illiamsons Flat, thence clown the Arawata saddle to Jacksons Ray on the AA'est Coast. This trip also penetrates much . unknown country. The return trip may he made via Haast Pass.
Air Brown (St. Kilda) is spending a fishing tour at Lakes Wanaka and Hawea.
Afessrs J. Black. Sliaiul, and L. AVilson (Dunedin) will visit Alakarora stalking this approaching season. Air P. C. Ardveon is the organiser of an exploring tour in the Wilkin, Alakarora and Hunter Valleys.
Air Fowler, also of Dunedin, with his family, propose to put in several days exploring and camping in the Wilkin Valley.
Air Furkett, son of ATr Furkett (Public Works Engineer) has outlined a tramping tour from Dunedin to Nelson via Alakarora and Haast Pass. His companions will return via Arthurs Pass.
Several American ladies are making a trip from Wanaka to Franz Josef.
