BOXING CONTROL
AMATEUR BODY TO ASK FOR REGULATIONS.
AUCKLAND, November 1
Having attended the Australian Amateur Boxing Union Conference in Sydney, Air .). F. Wilson, headmaster of tho ALiori Hill School, Dunedin, arrived at Auckland by the UHmaroa tin’s morning, and proceeded south by tii-nigJit’s express. “I represented the New Zealand Amateur Boxing Union,” said Mr Wilson, “as also did Alessrs Hoggard and Aldridge, the latter being the secretary of the Now Zealand Boxing Association, whereas I am one of those who went to get separate control for amatuer boxing in New Zealand, the same as for amatuer athletics and other hifanohes of sport. The other delegates from this Dominion favour the present method whereby amatuer aim professional boxing are controlled by tbe one body.” Tlio conference in Sydney was attended by delegates from branches of the Australian Amateur Boxing Union in tlio various States.
An interesting fact mentioned by tlio returning delegates is that the conference confirmed the resulted the mail ballot which ,was taken some time since throughout AustraKi. foi tlio purpose of ascertaining whether tbe various bodies favoured scpaiate or joint control of amntuers and professionals. The result was in laioui of separate control as already existing in the Commonwealth.
“Tt is our intention now to petition for regulations to he brought in giving separate control in New Zealand.” said Air Wilson. “There is no disputing tbe fact that a purely amateur organisation should control boxing ns in the- ease of all other sport.”
