The tropical colonies, upon which the industrial areas of the Empire tire becoming more and more dependent, have barely commenced what is destined to be an amazing career of economic development. The Empire is thus merely on the threshold of its material greatness. While many of the markets of the older areas of the world have reached, or even passed, their zenith, the markets of Empire are young and growing. If our own business men did not realise this, those of onr foreign competitors most certainly would, and I, therefore, welcome every sign of interest taken within the Empire in inter-imperial trade. A substantial new bridge lias been erected on the Arahura Valley road where the culvert was scoured out by flood damage last month. The new structure will give an enlarged water way and should meet all requirements for years. The bridge will probably be available for vehicle traffic from today.

The dramatic entertainment to be given in Princess Theatre on Thursday evening by St. Paul’s Dramatic Club, comprises three amusing comedies, particulars of which appear in this issue. An excellent entertainment is promised and the performers will he greeted with a good audience as there have been substantial bookings of reserved seats, ensuring a good attendance. The Girl Guides Bazaar in flic Soldiers’ Hall was successfully opened this afternoon. There was a capital array of goods of a useful nature on sale and a steady trade ensued, a band of young girls pushing . trade vigorously. 1 his evening the Bazaar will he concluded I when there will be an attractive musical programme, and the balance ol goods will he disposed of. A nominal charge of sixpence will be made for admission.

Carter the Great and his talented company appeared at the Princess Theatre last evening for a one night season. There "as a capital atlendanee present who had their attention and interest fully engaged tluough. ut a capital entertainment. The various mystifying acts were well carried out and included: Cheating the Gallows, the Torture Cell of Spikes, The Disappearing Woman, Shouting' Through a Live Woman, Aeria. Pigeons, Nest ol Boxes, the Astral Hand .Metamorphosis, Sawing a Live Woman in Halves, all in turn mystified and entertained those present and established Carter as a pci funner of great merit. Miss Evelyn Maxwell, in her exhibition of thought transference, or mental telepathy, gave an added zest to the programme and succeeded in completely demonstrating the power .she exercises in this particular study.
