THE PREMIER’S DETERMINATION LONDON, Oct. 25.
The “Daily Express’s” special correspondent says: Those who know Premier Bratianu’s fearless determination in crushing opposition realise that he is most capable of thus high-handedlx presenting a pistol at the heads ol his oponents King Michael’s sixth birthday was celebrated to-day. The members of the Cabinet and the diplomatic corps attended a service in the patriarchal church.
CAROL’S MANORUYRF.S. BUCHAREST. Oct. 25. The Roumanian Government has made further arrests. It has announced that it is determined to crush any attempted Carolist coup. The Manoilescu’s-letters included appeals to political leaders urging the repeal of the law dethroning ex-Prince Carol and appointing his son as ruler, and also included a proclamation addressed to the people, calling on them to declare themselves in Carol’s favour if they wished him to return. Ex-Prince Carol’s wife, Princess Helene, has siulenlv quitted Bucharest. It is understood that she has gone on a holiday to Florence for several months.
It has semi-officially been given out that her presence in the capital is not desirable should a conflict arise. It is also urged that Carol’s mother. Queen Marie is better able to support the Government’s policy than Princess Helene. It is believed Carol has a large following among the army. G OVER NMENT YYAR XING. VIENNA, Oct. 25. The Roumanian Government has posted detachments of troops at the public buildings. It has warned the Oppositionists that the slightest agitation will result in the arrest of their leaders, together with the proclamation of a state of siege throughout Roumania. Premier Bratianu is summoning all the Parties to meet on Thursday, and publicly to declare their attitude toward the present regime. Those not accepting it will be branded as enemies of the State, and will be tried for high treason.
