Following on ex-Prince (anil's declaration in Paris that, if the country called, he would answer, wild speculation lias been aroused by the arrest on the frontier of the former Under Secretary for Finance, M. Mauoilexcu when returning from Paris, carrying important letters. Other arrests are expected. BERLIN. Oit. 21. The strictest censorship is maintained over the Bulgarian Press. The Berliner Tageblatt’s Belgrade correspondent says : Prince Carol intends returning this week. VIENNA. Oct. 21. M. Nicolas Corea, editor of the paper New Star, founded' by M. Manoiloscu. to he issued on November Ist lias been arrested. LONDON, Oct. 25. The Daily Express Vienna correspondent states :A search of M. Manoileseu (former Roumanian Under Secretary of Finance), who was arrested on the Roumanian frontier, on his return from Paris, revealed four letters secreted in his clothing. These were taken to ,M. Bratiano. who, in consequence of ill healfh. summoned the Cabinet to meet at his flat. Prolonged meetings were held this morning? and after this a communique was issued which says the object of the letters is to induce tbe people of Rnumania to recall ex-Princo Carol to the throne.
The official statement adds: “Ibis amounts to an attack on tbe Constitution. for which M. M'anoileseu will be tried by court-martial. ’’ ft is unofficially stale! some of ilm letters are for Queen Marie, who is chagrined at finding herself regarded merely as the late King’s widow instead of having the chief part in the Regency, and, in order to he revenged on M. Bratiano. as well as on King Michael’s mother, she has lately become reiom-iled to cx-lTim-e Carol, whom she wants to see refun: as King.
