(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) SERIOUS FIRES. (Received this day at 8 a.in.) . SYDNEY, Oct. 22. A fire destroyed Lcckic’s timber yaul at Summerhill, and four adjoining residences. The damage was £15,000. A fire at Gunmain gutted four shops in the centre of the town, causing extensive damage. THE CHINESE INVASION. SYDNEY, Oct. 22. The master of the Arendskerk was fined £9OO for allowing nine Chinese, prohibited immigrants, to enter the country. PERTH, Oct. 22. The arrest of the Chinese on the Almkerk upset a deep-laid plan to smuggle Chinese into Austialia. Amon 0 those captured, the Customs officials stated some were shanghaied at Rotterdam. It is believed they were cn route to Singapore. The examining Customs Officers state it was extraordinary that humans could exist under the conditions in which the stowaways were discovered, the medical examination showing that another three hours confinement would have been fatal.
VICTORIAN MURDER CASE. MELBOURNE, Oct. 12. Peter Rasmussen surrendered to the police, charged with the murder of Jenner, who was shot whilst riding at Wontaggi.
