CRICKET CRITICS. SYDNEY, Oct. 20. Critics commenting on the forthcoming New Zealand match against New South Wales point out the New Zealand team will be facing a tremendous hurdle as it has just completed five weeks’ travel, and will hardly have lost its sea legs, will lie out of practice, and can hardly be expected to make a great showing against the powt .ful selected side. COMMENT'ON N.Z. TEAM. LONDON, Oct. 19. Hay (Manager of the New Zealand Cricket team) who lias been obtaining the independent judgment of "ellknown umpires, states I.en Brauiul, seven times umpire in New Zealand matches, considers the New Zealanders a better bowling side than the Australians. Merritt was already superior to Mailey. The famous ex-wicket-keeper, Harry Butt considered James had no superior behind the wickets, not even Oldfield. Hay points out that no County side had more than four batsmen to gain over a thousand runs in a season, while the New Zealanders had six. He considered tho defeats were entirely due to weak fielding, which was surprising in a young side.
