SWIMMING.

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.)

CHANNEL SWIMMER, LONDON, Oct. 19. Miss Gloitze did not start on her Channel swim owing to adverse winds. A Host of officials, newspaper men, photographers, and two doctors were waiting to accompany her. It is likely to be one of the most crowded and spectacular of Channel swims. Another outcome of the Logan hoax is that supporters of Gill (cabled on Oct. 14th) have issued an open challenge to all long-distance swimmers of either sex for a Channel race, the winner to he the first to land in the event of full distance being covered, or if impossible, the one nearest England.
