On file arrival of the Mnlicno from Wellington, the coloured hoxer, Joe flail, was arrested on a charge of being a prohibited immigrant. A STRIKE ECHO. BRISBANE. Oct. 18. Then- has been a serious clash at the South Johnstone sugar mill between the rival factions. It resulted in an ex-striker being seriously wounded with a revolver bullet. Intense bitterness prevailed at the mill between those employees who were engaged during the strike and the ex-strikers. A few individual assaults have been reported, hut the climax was reached at the change of the shifts to-day. when during a brawl, some shooting occurred. A largo force of police has arrived from Innisfail, Throe men have been detained.

Obituary.—Mrs Rosa Purdy, widow of Colonel Purdy, who was director of medical services in New Zealand during the war.
RACEHORSE SOLD. SYDNEY. Oct. It). The racehorse Penman was sold privately to a patron of Whiteworth stable, the price not being stated. ROMA OIL. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. A further increase in Roma oil shares is now quoted at C 5 5s at Sydney and L'U 10s at Melbourne. A CREW CHARGED. SYDNEY. Oct.. 17. Twenty-two members of the crow of the steamer Hurunui were charged at Newcastle for refusing to obey tho lawful command of the captain. Each was sentenced to imprisonment till tho rising of the Court and ordered to forfeit two days’ pay. The Captain stated in evidence the crew complained of the Chief Engineer and stated they would not go to sea with him as he caused a number of them to lie logged. Before passing sentence the Magistrate asked the men if they would return to the Hurunui. hut the men refused and the vessel is still held up.
SUGAR CROP. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. The Australian sugar crop for the present year totalled 485.000 tons, valued at C 10.000,000. Of this amount Britain took 150,000 tons, valued at £3,255,000.
WOOL SALES. -MELBOURNE. Oct. 17. At the wool sales there was keen competition in all sections at full late rates. Good clearances were effected. The Chairman of the National Council of Wool-Selling Brokers stated he estimated that the Australian clip of 2,250,000 bales would he maintained.
STATE CATTLE STATION’S LOSS. BRISBANE, Oct. 19. The animal report of the Trade 'Commissioner shows operations at the State cattle stations for last financial year showed a loss of £285.430 while six other State enterprises showed ail aggregate profit of £21.532. The total loss on State stations since their inception amounts to £1.116,480.

The now Ministry as cabled were sworn in. Mr Bavin announced he was determined to give effect to his policy speech, that the Aldermaniae Administration of City Council Affairs he superseded by the appointment of a civic commission, which will have a mandate to thoroughly reorganise every department in the Town Hall, in order to ensure efficient economic administration, pending the election of a Greater Svdnev Council.
It is stated a section of Reform Al dermen joined forces with the Municipal Labour caucus in order to prevent the appointment of a civic commission. An effort will also he made t > secure co-operation of municipal bodies throughout- the State, to prevent the Premier carrying out his intention. TWO STSTERS DROWNED. MELBOURNE. Oct. 19. Two sisters. Molly and Edna Gloeson aged 12 and 10 respectively, bathing in the Ynrra at Richmond, got cut of their depth and were drowned.
