THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES

Germans in Canada. That Canada and Germany have “ buried the hatchet ” is evident from the figures of trade and migration between the two countries (says Reuter's Ottawa bureau). During the past 12 months 12,540 -Germans have migrated to Canada, equal to the combined immigration of the past five years. The present German population of Canada is in the neighbourhood of 250,000. Canadian trade with Germany is at present- more than twice as large as before the war, with a healthy balance in Canada’s favour. In 1926 Canadian exports to Germany were 30,706,040 dollars, and imports from Germany 14,001,614 dollars. In 1913 Canadian exports were only 3,402,394 and imports 14,473,833. After the United States, Germany is Canada’s best customer.
