(Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 17... Bishop Barnes, in a striking sermon at St. Payl’s, made not the slightest reference to the scene. He discussed whether man’s creation was the result of blind mechanism or Divine design. He urged that scientific survey gives nothing to encourage us to repudiate tho lielief that man’s creation was divinely planned from the gorilla. Civilised man is tho product of the' same machinery, hut there has-been an unexpected variation in the case. Alan naturally thinks this variation is a stop in the Divine Plan. If Christians regard. God as contriving slowly to a maturing plan, whereby the human race has been brought into existence, modem science has no cogent argument against being convinced of the purpose of evolution as revealed in the moral and spiritual development of humanity. ;;
