CARTERTON FIRE.
“DAILY NEWS” BURNT OUT. CARTERTON, Oct. 18. A disastrous fire occurred at two o’clock his morning, when a block of hree buildings was destroyed, including the Wairarapa “Daily News” Office. A high wind was blowing at- the time. The. Brigade were hampered by lack of water and were unable to stay its spread. The premises destroyed were Hawtin’s garage; factory and dwelling combined, occupied by G. Twining; Wairarapa. “Daily News,” all a total loss, nothing being saved. Insurances on factory and dwelling £.500: Wairarapa ‘Daily News” £4OO on building and £2OOO on plant and stock. Hawtin’s is unavailable. With the assistance of the Wairarapa “Age” the “Daily News” is publishing to-day as usual. The loss is estimated at over £7OOO.
